{"id":15919,"date":"2021-07-24T06:19:01","date_gmt":"2021-07-24T06:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ndarason.com\/?p=15919"},"modified":"2022-11-21T09:46:09","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T08:46:09","slug":"kura-bari-program-the-mass-matriculation-examination-failure-what-went-wrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ndarason.com\/en\/kura-bari-program-the-mass-matriculation-examination-failure-what-went-wrong\/","title":{"rendered":"Kura Bari Program : The mass matriculation examination failure: What went wrong?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello and welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Our topic today is about why so many of our schoolchildren failed their matriculation examinations and we ask: What went wrong?<\/p>\n<p>When the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released this year\u2019s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results on June 23, schoolchildren and their parents were not happy.<\/p>\n<p>Only 14% of the more than 1.3 million candidates who sat for the examinations scored 160 out of 400, which is the required pass to secure admission into higher tertiary institutions in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Many blamed the board for the decline in the schoolchildren\u2019s performance. The board, however, said although COVID-19 played a major role, many schoolchildren did not take the examinations seriously.
