{"id":17148,"date":"2021-09-25T07:58:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-25T07:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ndarason.com\/?p=17148"},"modified":"2022-11-21T09:46:09","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T08:46:09","slug":"kura-bar-program-cholera-has-taken-its-toll-on-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ndarason.com\/en\/kura-bar-program-cholera-has-taken-its-toll-on-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Kura Bari Program: Cholera has taken its toll on Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello and welcome<\/p>\n<p>Today in the Kura Bari Program we are discussing the cholera outbreak that has taken Nigeria by storm.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported that there were more than 30,000 cases of cholera and 800 deaths in the country between January and August this year. These included cases in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,000 cholera cases and\u00a090 deaths have been reported in 25 local government areas across\u00a0Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states in the past two months.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Lawi Mshelia, Borno State\u2019s director of public health, said on Tuesday, September 21, that there are 1,407 confirmed cases and 90 deaths in 12 local government areas in the state. But many think the figures could be higher than those registered, especially in the hard-to-reach areas that have been the worst hit by violent conflicts with insurgents.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time in three years that a cholera outbreak has been declared\u00a0in the northeast region.
