More than 260,000 African children under the age of five die from malaria annually.<\/p>\n<p>More than half of malaria deaths worldwide are in six sub-Saharan African countries and almost a quarter are in Nigeria alone.<\/p>\n<p>The news of the first malaria vaccine approved for use in children has come as a great relief for mothers, so many of whom have lost their children to the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Findings from the vaccine pilot showed it \u201csignificantly reduces severe malaria which is the deadly form by 30%,\u201d said Kate O&#8217;Brien, director of the World Health Organisation\u2019s Department of Immunisation, Vaccines and Biologicals.<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone trusts the vaccine and it is uncertain whether people will allow their children to get inoculated when it is made available.<\/p>\n<p>In the past there has been scepticism about the efficacy of many other important vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine and polio immunisation, when they were introduced in the northeast of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Or guests are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr Lawi Mshelia<\/strong>, Borno State\u2019s director of public health; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr Umar Ali<\/strong>, a consultant at the Humanitarian Clinic and Treatment Centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 10px;color: #cccccc;overflow: hidden;font-family: Interstate,Lucida Grande,Lucida Sans Unicode,Lucida Sans,Garuda,Verdana,Tahoma,sans-serif;font-weight: 100\"><a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/user-946373617\" title=\"Ndarason\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #cccccc;text-decoration: none\" rel=\"noopener\">Ndarason<\/a> \u00b7 <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/user-946373617\/kura-bari-programon-malaria-vaccine\" title=\"Kura Bari ProgramOn Malaria Vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #cccccc;text-decoration: none\" rel=\"noopener\">Kura Bari ProgramOn Malaria Vaccine<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello and welcome!
