Schools have been closed for about 7 months in Nigeria, as part of the effort made by the government to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Finally, the schools have resume yesterday 26th of October 2020 in Borno State. On this backdrop Our reporter Hadiza Dawud today visited Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School a boarding school in Maiduguri to observe the measures put in place especially in the school hostels.
A student Maimuna umar said, she swept her room and collected her personal protective equipment which was distributed by the school authority, shortly after her arrival on Sunday.
Another student Falmata Abubakar said, social distance measures have been put in place both at the hostels and classes. Adding that currently, each person sleeps on a bed alone unlike before two girls usually sleep on one bunk bed. She added
A matron of the school hostel Mrs Fatima Mahmud said, on her part she ensures that all the students adhere strictly to the protocols within the hostel premises and dining area as well.
On behalf of the management, she applauded the effort of the state government by providing Personal protective equipment’s to halt the spread of the disease.
However, the Borno state government has construct new hostel in the some schools in other to practice the social distance measure better.
