The Nigerian government have been urged to address high cost in living, hike in the prices of food stuffs, electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.

This was made known to Radio Ndarason International reporter in Maiduguri the Borno State capital in the north-eastern Nigeria today during an interactive session with residents

Halima Bukar who owned a restaurant said she is not sure if she can continue with the business if the prices of food stuffs is not addressed, added that she is now counting loses instead of profits.

The food vendor stressed that, a bag of rice which was sold at 13,500 naira is now sold at 32,000 naira, noting that customers can no longer patronise food in restaurants, added that she is now thinking of compromising the quality of the food in other to meet to customers’ demands.

Musa Umar who was displaced four years ago by Boko Haram/ISWAP sects in his town of Marte in the Lake Chad shores, and solely rely on electricity supply to run his soft drinks business also decried the hike in the electricity tariff.

The young man said, he was shocked when he received the information, added that despite the increase, the light was not stable at all time. He pointed that he can hardly enjoy six hours of uninterrupted light a day and now asked to pay more than what he can earn in a month.

On their parts, Nigerian Labour Congress, major political opposition party, Civil Society Organisations urged government to reserves the decision because Nigerians cannot survive the hike, noting that many economic activities still remained closed due to COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
