Brief – A man was killed and a teenage girl abducted by insurgents – thought to be members of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’way Wa’l-Jihād (JAS) – in Gatamarwa village in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday evening, July 8.

Habu Musa, a resident, told RNI reporter Aisha Jamal that the insurgents arrived at the village in cars and riding motorbikes.

“Boko Haram [JAS] fighters stormed the town, shooting as they rampaged their way through it. They burnt down two houses and killed a man. They also abducted a teenage girl. Everybody started running to the riverside, but the man was shot on the move.”

Musa said troops arrived when the insurgents had already left. Vigilantes ran into the forest to try to get the girl back but they could not find her. “The parents and people in the village are sad. We are still looking for the girl. We have not lost hope that she will return.”
