Brief – Ten people, including a child, were shot and killed and one man severely wounded by insurgents on Friday evening at Buni Gari in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told RNI that the insurgents were members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
“On Friday, a child was sent to fetch firewood in the bush but he did not return. We heard ISWAP insurgents had captured him. We sent 10 men to plead with ISWAP to release the child. But the insurgents captured them, tied their hands behind their backs and shot them.
“On Sunday we went to look for the missing men and found 10 corpses, including the dead child. One man was still alive but his shoulder, neck and waist were severely wounded.”
The resident said that in the past Buni Gari residents had fought and defeated the insurgents. “Since then, if the insurgents know you are from Buni Gari, they will kill you.”
