At least 24 people were killed by an airstrike on a village in Nigeria’s northern Kaduna state, residents and a local councillor said on Monday, after an Air Force operation targeting armed gangs and their hideout. The Technical Sub-Committee on Domestic Sales of Crude Oil in Local Currency has confirmed that the supply of crude in naira by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is to begin on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. On September 13, 2024, the committee announced that the Federal Executive Council under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the sale of crude to local refineries in naira and the corresponding purchase of petroleum products in naira.

Currency in circulation hits N4.1trn in August – Daily Trust

Currency in circulation has reached an all-time high of N4.1trillion as of August 2024, Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has shown. This is just as currency outside the banks also grew to 3.86 trillion in the month under review. The data showed a steady increase in currency in circulation, growing from N4.05 trillion in the previous month of July to N4.1 trillion in August, according to the Apex Bank’s Money and Credit Statistics. Daily Trust reports that the currency in circulation has continued to grow since the beginning of the year starting with N3.65 trillion currency in circulation in January.

Zoho, a global technology company, has said that it grew by 31%  in 2023 in Nigeria, one of its key markets in the Africa region. The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said it is determined to take Nigeria to a trillion-dollar economy by 2030. How does he intend to do so? For the records, one trillion dollar economy as of today’s exchange rate is N1,600 trillion. Going by Nigeria’s budget this year, 2024, a total of N34 trillion was proposed and approved. Fusing or synthesising N34 trillion budget with a projected one trillion dollar economy (1,600 trillion naira), would give us just two per cent. The root cause of our poverty is majorly the size of our national budget and low productivity.

World Bank approves fresh N2.4tr loan for Nigeria – Daily Trust

The World Bank has announced the approval of $1.57 billion ( N2.4 trillion at N1601 to a dollar) to boost human capital in Nigeria through better health for women, children and adolescents. According to a statement by the bank, part of the support will also help to mitigate the impact of climate change in Nigeria through improvement in dam safety and irrigation.

Corruption : Cameroon Loses More Than F114 Billion – Journal du Cameroun

According to the 13th report on the state of corruption in Cameroon, the losses in 2023 are 109 billion 412 million 503 thousand 584 CFA francs higher than the losses in 2022. Over the last three reports, the amount of corruption-related losses has fluctuated up and down. In 2022, the country suffered losses of 4.62 billion CFA francs. Presenting the 2022 report in October 2023, the President of CONAC underscored an 89% decrease compared to the 43.947 billion CFA francs in losses recorded in 2021.
