The Digital News Report, published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, said 68 per cent of Nigerians still trust the media, which is the highest in the world. Nigeria is followed by Finland, where 67 per cent trust in the media. Citizens of two European countries, Hungary and Greece, have the lowest trust in the media (22 per cent). The research said Nigerians’ trust in the news has increased significantly since 2021, alongside some recent improvements in the press freedom index scores from RSF.

Nigeria scores poorly in global human rights assessment — Report

Nigeria continues to perform poorly on key human rights indicators, according to new data by the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), an independent global non-governmental organisation. PREMIUM TIMES obtained the report on Thursday. The report pointed out significant shortfalls in government protections for civil liberties, personal security, and basic living standards. In its 2025 dataset, published via the Rights Tracker platform, HRMI rated Nigeria 3.2 out of 10 in the category of Safety from the State, which includes protection from arbitrary arrest, torture, enforced disappearance, extrajudicial execution, and the death penalty.

June 18 (Reuters) – A 90,000 metric ton cargo of gasoline from Nigeria’s Dangote refinery will be sold out of the region for the first time and bound for Asia, a source familiar with the matter. Since the 650,000 barrel-per-day refinery started gasoline exports last year, the cargoes have stayed in west Africa.
