Saturday, August 30, suspected ISWAP insurgents killed at least five farmers. The tragedy occurred in Ngoshe, a community in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The victims were working on their farms in the morning when the insurgents attacked them.
New dark cloud on the Ngoshe community
Junaid Jibrin, a legislative aide to the Senator representing Southern Borno, Muhammad Ali Ndume, condemned the attack. “A dark cloud has once again fallen on the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State,” Jibrin told Ndarason. “By mid-morning on Saturday, while innocent farmers were simply tilling their land in search of daily sustenance, suspected ISWAP insurgents descended upon them in cold blood. Five precious lives were cut short“, he said.
An almost daily horror
“Ordinary people, whose only ‘fault’ was to step into their farms to feed their families and contribute to the community, were silenced forever. This is our story, such horrors visit us almost daily, especially upon our farmlands”, Jibrin added.

Police await information on the deadly incident
The attack has sparked outrage and sadness. Citizens call for increased security measures to protect farmers and communities in the region. However, authorities have yet to confirm the incident. Nanum Keneath, the police spokesperson in Borno, said they were yet to receive information about the attack, while Reuben Kovangiya, a spokesperson of the Nigerian Military’s Operation Hadin Kai, said he could not confirm the incident.
Military claimed victory in four other villages
In a separate development, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly killed about 20 insurgents in recent offensives. The operations, carried out between Saturday and Sunday, targeted insurgents’ hideouts in Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri, Gaza, and Loskori Kura villages.
