Hello and welcome!
Our topic today in Kura Bari Program is Twitter Suspension: What does that mean to freedom of expression?
The federal government has suspended the use of the micro-blogging site, Twitter, in Nigeria indefinitely.
The decision, which has angered the nearly 40-million Twitter users in the country, was announced on Thursday, June 3, by the Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, just two days after Twitter deleted a comment from the president’s account for violating its rules.
Canada, the European Union, Ireland, the United States and Britain condemned the suspension. In a joint statement they urged the Nigerian government to review the decision.
