Babakura Goni Usman, an Islamic scholar in Maiduguri, is unhappy with what happened to the EndSars protestors on Tuesday night. Many protestors have been reported killed and wounded by the Nigerian army or police in Lagos at Lekki toll gate, and despite the introduction of a curfew the Lagos High Court was reportedly ‘set ablaze’ today.
The scholar said that he is hungry for peace, and everyone is hungry for it as it the prime mover of development in every society in the world. “As Nigerians, we should all focus on how to rejuvenate our lost peace and work hard to sustain it,” he added.
He warned that it is high time youth use this God-given sense as otherwise politicians will start using them for their personal gain, thereby affecting people negatively.
He said that Allah has ordered mankind to fear crisis for if it starts it will not only affect those who began it but the public in general. He went on to say that whoever kills one person unjustly it is as though he had killed the whole of humanity, and that whoever feeds one person it is as though he had fed the whole world.
The scholar’s view is backed up by one young person in Maiduguri, Malam Ali Mustapha, who told RNI that peace to him is knowledge, understanding people’s situation and the spreading of kindness. The inability of the government to understand the situation of people who are aggrieved can lead to endless crisis, he said.
Malam went on to say that education, improved health care and love are the foundations of peace in every society. He continued that protesting pointlessly shows a lack of knowledge because those who have knowledge will take their time to study their problems and tackle them intelligently.
He lastly called on the youth to stop allowing themselves to be used to start trouble for the government and cause mayhem in society.
