Brief – One person was killed and 15 others wounded in a clash between farmers and herders in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
RNI reporter Alhaji Sheriff Bura said the person who died was a farmer.
Farmer Ali Mai Bindiga said: “The herders bring their animals when we are harvesting and force us to leave our farms. We cannot stop them because they kill us if we dare to talk to them.”
He said the farmers had reported the herders’ actions to police but, when they patrolled the area, the herders ran away and returned at night.
“Apart from farmers being killed, we lose a lot of money because the animals eat and trample our harvest. A lasting solution needs to be found.”
Miyetti Allah Fulani, spokesman of the Cattle Rearers’ Association, said there should be allocated spaces where farmers could work their lands and where animals could graze.
