Brief – Soldiers and vigilantes foiled an attempted attack by suspected members of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’way Wa’l-Jihād (JAS) on the Lassa Ward of Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Tuesday, June 28.
Habu Musa, a resident, told RNI reporter Aisha Jamal that the JAS, better known as Boko Haram, arrived in the town in vehicles and on motorbikes at about 7pm. He said it took less than an hour for the soldiers and vigilantes to chase the attackers away. No one was wounded and no lives were lost.
“Having the troops in our town has made us all feel a lot safer and confident. We have gone back to our lands and we are farming again. It’s the rainy season and we are expecting a good harvest. The troops have assured us that we will be safe. They also asked us to cooperate if we find anything suspicious or hear anyone giving information to the insurgents.”
