The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Thursday said troops of Operations Hadin Kai in the North East and Hadarin Daji in the North West neutralised 58 Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. The military high command also said troops apprehended 40 suspected logistics suppliers to terrorists, while 39 kidnap victims were rescued.

The brief covers operational activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies conducted in addressing the various security challenges across the Country between the period of 1 – 15 June 2023.

As part of the strategy to contain any breach, security forces were deployed massively across the country in a renewed bid to neutralise potential threats to the event and supress a resurgence of terror attacks. Again, military authorities, the police high command and the intelligence agencies, had at different fora, restated their preparedness for a seamless transition, a situation that prompted the launch of a massive, on-going joint security operation.

Terrorists locally dubbed as bandits on Monday killed a medical doctor and abducted 10 people including members of the slain doctor’s family in an attack on Jangebe community, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The presiding priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, Reverend Father Jeremiah Yakubu, has been kidnapped by gunmen. He was kidnapped from the parish rectory in Kauru LGA at about 11pm on Sunday.

Suspected terrorists have kidnapped the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Reverend Father Jeremiah Yakubu.
This was confirmed in a statement released by the Chancellor of Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, who revealed that Father Yakubu was kidnapped from the parish rectory in Kauru LGA at about 11pm on Sunday.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) says over 25 million Nigerians may face acute hunger at the peak of the lean season (June-August) this year.
