A seven-year-old girl found raped at Dusari in a garden in Jere local government area, Borno state, north-eastern Nigerian Thursday last (9 Sept.)
Civilian Joint Task Force commander, Dusari, Mohammed Abacha, confirmed the incident saying that he was not at home when the incident occurred, but he was informed via telephone by his team members.
Mohammed Abacha added that he quickly went to the scene of the event and arrested the rapist who he said was a middle aged-man and still single.
According to Abacha, the victim was heard shouting and they soon located the scene and made the arrest and handed the man over to police
According to officials, in the past years, there have been rising concerns over the spike of rape and related sexual violence on female inmates of internally-displaced persons’ (IDPs) camps as well as those living outside the camps.
Meanwhile, legal practitioners have frequently urged government to enact a child protection law, which according to them will go a long way to addressing the menace.
