Brief – Internally displaced persons are even more desperate to return to their ancestral homes after an improved explosive device (IED) was found in the Dalori camp in the Jere Local Government Area in Borno State on Monday, May 16.
The locally made bomb was hidden in a plastic container and was believed to have been planted by a renegade resident on Sunday night. When residents saw the container, the anti-bomb squad was immediately called and the device was successfully detonated without harming or killing anyone.
Abdu Umar, the commissioner of police in the Borno State Command, confirmed the incident and said stringent security measures had been put in place to guarantee public safety.
The government has promised the IDPs that they will be allowed to return to their ancestral homes in the next 10 days.
