Motorists and commuters plying Maiduguri-Gubio highway decried the frequent attacks on them by the suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Abubakar Modu is a commercial driver plying the road in an interview with Umar Gonimi today, said the road has become a death trap for motorists due to the activities of the insurgents. He added that, drivers and passengers are being attacked in a daily basis, many killed while girls are being abducted frequently.
The driver said many of his colleagues were killed while others injured, noting that he is plying the road since he doesn’t have any other job and he has a family to look after.
Mohammed Ali and Bunu Musa during an interview with RNI expressed concern over the increase in attacks, and called on government to deploy more security personnel to protect lives and properties of the people.
Responding, the Overall Commander Joint Task Force Gubio Town said, there is a need to review the military formation and strategies along the road, noting that the insurgents recently displaced entire communities settling between Maiduguri-Gubio-axis due to frequent attacks by the insurgents.
He however, urged the members of the public to support the security operatives with credible information that will make their task easier.
