Brief – A former sugar cane seller, who was abducted by the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’way Wa’l-Jihād (JAS) on his farm last year, was captured by the Civilian Joint Task Force during an attack on firewood sellers in Kachari village in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday, January 9.
The sugar cane seller had been forced by JAS members to take part in the attack but he was captured by CJTF members.
A CJTF member told RNI reporter Rawa Bukar Tela that hunters and task force members had escorted firewood sellers into the forest. While on patrol, they saw members of the JAS, more commonly referred to as Boko Haram, coming towards them. “We exchanged gunfire leaving many wounded and others running away. No one was wounded or killed among us.”
The CJTF said these attacks were frequent. “We need more fighters and equipment to flush out the remaining JAS members from the forest,” he said.
