Farmers in Maiduguri Borno State northeast, Nigeria expect a bumper harvest as the rainy season is about to end the region.
The farmers have expressed delight over the abundant rainfall being witnessed in most parts of Nigeria, saying this may be a sign of a bumper harvest across the country.
Modu Ngwami Ajiri is a farmer, and while speaking to our reporter Fatima Grema Modu, he said he is happy because the crops are in good condition and at the end of the season he expects a bumper harvest.
Falta Maibe another farmer is also counting on a bumper harvest this year. She said, this will lead to a crash in the prices of food in the region.
“Floods destroyed some of our crops, especially okra and sesame, but corn, maize and millets are not affected” added, Falmata.
No less than 25 people lost their lives while 17 others sustained injuries as a result of flood in Bauchi state, northeast, Nigeria last week.
The governor of the state stated this when he received a delegation of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA led by the director-general, Air Vice Marshal Muhammad A. Muhammed (rtd), on a courtesy visit to government house, Bauchi.
According to the governor, the floods in the northeast and other part of the country if carefully not managed it would be a threat to the national food security.
