As the West African examination council (WAEC) ended, our reporter Amina Abbagana visited Women Teachers College Maiduguri, the headquarters of Borno state in northeastern Nigeria to observe the performance and safety of the students.
The students who express gratitude over the successful completion of the examination said despite the corona virus pandemic and lack of security in the state, they are very pleased with their performance.
Fatima Abba one of the students said that revision was done before they started the final examination and she always read at home, which helped her during the exams.
The principal of the school was also delighted with the performance of the students, noting that despite the COVID-19 pandemic they were able to complete this examinations without a single case being recorded in the school.
Schools were closed in the entire Nigeria on April, 2020 as part of the measures to curtail the corona virus pandemic, however on the 17th of August the federal government announced the reopening of schools in Nigeria so that students could write their final exams.
Sadly, among those writing the Examination, twenty positive cases were discovered in Bayelsa State, and seven from Gombe state, among others.
