A man chained for years by an unknown person was found abandoned at Mashidimami ward Maiduguri, Borno State northeast, Nigeria.
The man who was found yesterday by the roadside was believed to have been chained up for years and could neither talk nor reply to questions from Radio Ndarason International reporter Hadiza Dawud today.
Dawud reported that the man was traumatised, extremely thin and wounded.
Dunoma Gajima is the ward head of Mashidimami community interviewed by our reporter said, he received the reports by residents, and immediately went to the man.
Gajima added that, he later reported the case to the police but they refused to carry the man, noting that he took the man to the hospital without any assistance from the government.
Speaking to Radio Ndarason International human rights activist Mohammed Abba Aji of Civil Liberties Organisation in Maiduguri disclosed that the man is in need of serious medical attention and is now responding positively to medical attention given to him.
Sai’du Adamu of the National Human Rights Commission while interacting with our reporter said the commission is aware of the incidents, but expressed concern over lack of credible information by residents of the community in other to make their work easier.
