Kura Bari Program: More synergy needed for peace in the Lake Chad region

Good morning and welcome. Today we will discuss what should be done to keep peace in the Lake Chad region. For the first time since he was appointed as the head of Transitional Military Council, General Mahamat Deby of Chad made his first foreign trip last week to Niger and Nigeria. In Niamey, the capital of Niger, Deby held talks with President Mohamed Bazoum. He also visited 1.200 Chadian troops in western Niger where deployed under regional anti-jihadist mission.

On Friday, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, had a closed-door session with Deby at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Deby’s meeting with Buhari was to formally introducing himself and his leadership. Among other issues, the discussed the menace of terrorism and arms proliferation that is threatening the peace and security of region.
