Damboa was attacked yesterday (Sunday) by armed men. The attack happened at about 4.54pm reported one resident, Malam Ali Lawan, told RNI. He said he was coming back from the Damboa central market and that the attackers came through Gada-kada kafa a common road known to everyone in Damboa. They came in silently without shooting or shouting and only started shooting in the air once they were in the town, he added.
“The insurgents did not kill anyone in the city because the military and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) repelled the attack and killed some of the attackers, but I am unsure of how many .” He said.
Malam Lawan also stated that the insurgents came in 20 cars and the attack lasted for three hours.
On the other hand, another eye witness, Modu Aji, mentioned that he saw them coming into the city and thought that they were soldiers.
He added that he could not differentiate them from soldiers because their vehicles were painted the same colours as those of the army, and they were all wearing army uniforms. He said that people who have sustained injuries in the attack are currently at the Damboa specialist hospital receiving treatments.
Only two weeks ago Damboa suffered a series of attacks by insurgents, which resulted in deaths and loss of property worth millions of naira.
One eye witness called on the government and the good people of Damboa to continue to support the military and the CJTF in the fight against insurgency in the state as they are always ready to protect lives and properties.
