Speaking with an RNI reporter today, Monday, in Maiduguri, women hunters complained about the challenges they face in their fight against insecurity.
Bintu Mustapha, woman hunter said despite their efforts and achievements in killing quite a number of insurgents sometimes they have been attacked and injured by Boko Haram insurgents during an operation due to lack of ammunition. And many have been shot on farms she added. She calls on the government at all levels to provide modern rifles in order to fight the insecurity.
For her part, Yagana Bulama Modu Ngubdo, another female hunters, said that sometimes they spend days in the forest unlike before, and most of the communities rely on them for security, especially in northern Borno.
One female hunter who delivered a child on her way to an operation, Falmata Yusuf, urged the government to look into the situation, as they are ever ready to work. And she also called on the people report suspicious elements wherever they are.
Insecurity has become a many-headed monster in Borno state, northeast Nigeria, triggering the involvement of hunters in order to protect their own communities and to assist the security forces in restoring peace to the region.
