Rape cases have increased dramatically in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country, so that new cases are been recorded almost every day.

As part of the effort to de-escalate its occurrence, recently the Nigerian minister of women affairs, Pauline Tallen, advocated the death penalty for rapists.

Speaking with Radio Ndarason International reporter in Maiduguri today, an Islamic scholar, Imam Abdulkadir Ali, said rape is evil, sinful and a condemnable act in Islam.

He added that there are a severe punishments in the hereafter for whoever commits rape.

For a long time, women and rights’ group activists were calling on government to enact a child protection law, but these calls have been in vain.

Kaduna State government was commended by many Nigerian rights groups for signing into law castration for rapists just yesterday, which according to them it will go a long way to addressing the menace.
