Brief – A man was killed by a stray bullet in an attack by suspected Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’way Wa’l-Jihād (JAS) fighters in Goniri Garuwa, a town in the Gujba Local Government Area in Yobe State, on Sunday night, August 7.
A resident told RNI that the fighters arrived about 8pm. He said he heard loud gunshots but troops arrived in armoured vehicles soon afterwards and, after some exchange of fire, chased away the JAS, better known as Boko Haram.
The resident said it was the fourth attempted attack in a month. Because it was the rainy season, he said, some soldiers were patrolling the town on foot. He believed the insurgents were trying to take advantage of this to infiltrate the town.
Residents of the town were living in fear all the time because of all the attempted attacks, he said, adding that they never knew when the next was going to happen.
