The eleven years of insecurity in the Lack Chad Basin, mainly in the north-eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states in Nigeria which claims over thirty five thousand lives, nearly three millions persons were displaced mostly women and children.
After the displacements from their various communities in the shores of Lake Chad, many of them are struggling for survival.
Radio Ndarason International reporter in Maiduguri Fatima Grema Modu reported that, most beggars seen on the major streets of Maiduguri were teenagers and girls begging for survival
The teenagers according our reporter were mostly orphaned by Boko Haram insurgents and left on their own without guardians
Speaking to our reporter in Maiduguri today, Magaji Wala the Executive Director of the Girl Child Concern (GCC) said as an organisation, they always discourage child begging particularly for girl child.
Magaji added that the future of these teenagers begging is in danger, urged government and well to do individuals to join hand with such organisations to end the girl child begging.
According to him, situations, lack of assistance by the members of community and government forced them to take the streets and in return they become soft targets for rapists.
In their effort to ameliorate their hardship, Magaji added that, their organisation (GCC) in collaborations with government and non-governmental organisations last year enrolled over 300 hundred teenagers to schools under free scholarship initiative but he however expressed concerns over the lack of supports to sustain the programme.
