The people with special needs have decried what they called discrimination against them, for not considering them by the government while offering jobs.
This was made known to Radio Ndarason International yesterday by the National Leader of the association Borno State Chapter in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital, in the northeast, Nigeria during an interactive session.
Muhammad Abubakar said, people living with disabilities are discriminated by the members of the public and the government. He said, even after graduating from the collage, once you are physically disabled you can hardly get employed.
He added that, many of them are graduates without jobs, which in return, they end up begging for survival. Abubakar who is also a graduate is however optimist that one day this will change, noting that it is a big shame for the government and the larger society for not considering them suitable while offering jobs.
He said due of lack employments, it is obvious today seeing people with special needs roaming the major streets begging for survival, added that to address this, government should always consider them while offering jobs.
In her quest to get response from the government officials, Radio Ndarason International reporter was at the Borno State Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, a body responsible to cater for the people special needs, but her effort has proven abortive as the Commissioner refused to respond to questions.
